  • Summer School

    Summer school will be held from June 13 - August 1 and is for credit recovery ONLY. All courses are online, and students are required to attend Monday - Thursday from 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. Limited space is available. The application is online on the homepage uner Summer School Information. Students must complete an application to be eligible. See Ms. Wilson in the Media Lab with any questions.

  • Senior Fines

    Seniors should check the Senior Fines List on the Media Center door to see if fines are owed to the school. Seniors will NOT be allowed to walk across the stage for graduation if fines are NOT cleared. See Ms. Fogleman in Room B-4 with any questions about senior fines.

  • Dodgeball Tournament

    A Dodgeball Tournament will be held Thursday, May 30. The cost is $18 per team or $24 per team the day of the tournament. Spectators can watch for $2 per person. All money raised will be donated to the bombing victims in Boston.

  • DREAM Team

    Applications are available at Mrs. Smith's Classroom, E5. Applicants must be a rising junior or senior, be a member of a varsity team next school year and have a 3.0 unweighted GPA. Applications are due by May 31st. See Mrs. Smith with any questions.

  • French, Spanish and Environmental Clubs

    On Tuesday, May 28 there will be a joint end-of-year meeting for French, Spanish and Environmental Clubs. Please see club advisors asap to sign up for contibutions. The meeting will be at 3:15 in Room D5, Mrs. Smith's Room.

  • Dance Students

    First and second semester sdance tudents will be meeting at Mimi's Cafe Saturday, June 1 at 9:00 a.m. for awards, breakfast and honoring our seniors. Please sign up in the Dance Room if planning to attend.

  • Athletic Recognitions

    The event will take place on June 2 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Dress is casual - no jeans or tennis shoes. An invitation will be sent to all athletes who started and completed at least one sport this school year at SAHS.

  • Word of Caution

    Students who may have received invitations in the mail to pay $60 to join the National Honor Society of High School Scholars should know that this organization is NOT endorsed by the National Association of High School Principals. Students should contact Mrs. Payne if the invitation does not include her name or Mrs. Faucette's name. The membership to the National Honor Society endorsed by Southern High is $12, including the honor cord.

  • North Carolina A&T State University
    A&T is offering a summer camp for rising 12th grade students who have a least a 2.8 GPA.  This program features SAT prep courses, workshops in test-taking skills and college applications, and academic and career planning.  Students stay on campus with all meals and acitivities included.  The program is free; however, if a student is accepted to attend the camp, there is a $100 application fee.  The camp runs from July 14-16.  Students should see Mrs. Carter in Student Services if they have any questions or would like more information on how to apply.

  • Appalachian State Forensic Science Camp
    The camp is designed for students in grades 9-12 with an interest in the laboratory analysis of crime scene evidence.  Participants must have either their science teacher or counselor email a recommendation for this camp.  Early registration of $484 is due by March 31; after that time, regular registration of $509 will apply.  See a guidance counselor for additional information.

  • Exceptional Children's Department

    Today we would like to showcase Dr. Tracy Sheradin.  Dr. Sheradin has two undergraduate degrees, one in special education and one in elementary education from Keuka College in 1999.  She has two master's degrees, one in reading education and one in special education earned form Elmira College in 2001.  She has a PhD in Special Education earned from Walden University in 2004.  She is also a Nationally Board Certified Exceptional Children's teacher.  Dr. Sheradin has been married to the other Dr. Sheradin for twelve years, and they have two Siamese cats named Emily and Madison.  Outside of school, she participates in skeet and trap shooting, gardening, reading, running half marathons, going to the gym - Thank you, Coach DeAngelo - and watching the Carolina Hurricanes play hockey.  Her bucket list includes attending the Stanley Cup Finals Hockey Game, completing a marathon in under five hours, paying back student loans, writing a book, learning how to play the harp and the upright bass violin, owning a donkey, and living at the beach so she can be more involved with sea turtle preservation efforts.  Thank you, Dr. Sheradin for being a part of the Patriot community.
