The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA) requires all school districts to identify, to locate, and to evaluate students with disabilities, or those suspected of having disabilities who may be in need of special education and related Services.

This IDEA requirement is referred to as "Child Find".

Student Assistance Teams (SAT) are one of the tools used by the school system to meet the Child Find responsibilities.

SATs assist the struggling student and the student's teacher(s) to help the student become more successful in school, both academically and behaviorally. A SAT Chair heads the teams at schools that have Student Assistance Teams. For more information about this process click here:  The SAT Process .

Another tool that some schools use is Response to Intervention (RtI).  For more information about this process please visit the ABSS Problem Solving Model (PSM).

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is designed to eliminate discrimination on the basis of handicap in any program or activity receiving Federal funds including public schools. ABSS School Board Policy 3410
