The 2021-2022 school year will begin with physical science. The topics that will be covered during this unit include: matter, states of matter, physical and chemical properties of matter, phase changes, physical and chemical changes, light and sound, the eye and the ear, the electromagnetic spectrum, the characteristics of longitudinal and transverse waves, the parts of waves, how waves travel, the effects of electromagnetic waves, thermal energy, heat, conduction, convection, radiation, conductors, insulators, thermal expansion and thermal contraction.
The next unit of study will be earth science. The topics that will be covered in this unit include: the earth, moon, and sun system, phases of the moon, eclipses, tides, seasons, the solar system, the structure of the earth, plate tectonics, plate boundaries, effects of plate movement, soil formation, and soil stewardship.
The earth science unit of study will be followed by life science. The topics that will be covered in this unit of study include: the structure and function of plants, pollination, photosynthesis, transpiration, respiration, food chains, food webs, energy pyramids, dormacy, tropisms, ecosystems, biomes, abiotic factors, biotic factors, and limiting factors.
The 2021-2022 school year will end with a study of space and space exploration.
