National Honor Society is an organization that students can be invited to in the fall semester of their junior or senior year of high school.Selection Criteria
Students must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and a minimum weighted GPA of 3.85.
Students must indicate at least two (2) verifiable leadership roles and at least one (1) positive leadership accomplishment in that role for each. The NHS recognizes that leadership can occur outside of elected positions including leadership roles within the classroom and effective participation in positions of responsibility in other activities offered on campus.
Students must have completed ten (10) hours of verifiable service since the start of ninth grade. Students must provide the name and email address of the person who can verify their hours served.
Students are asked to list any honors or recognitions they have received, as well as list their extra-curricular activities, and any disciplinary actions against them such as ISS, OSS, or detention with an opportunity to explain what happened. Students are then asked to provide two teacher recommendations. Students are asked to provide one community recommendation who may be able to comment on their character, service, and/or leadership.Invitations for membership are typically passed out within the first 10 days of the school year and information on how to apply, with a strict deadline, is enclosed.Once a member of NHS, students are required to maintain their GPAs, complete 25 hours of community service, participate in the NHS group service project, and regular meetings.To find out more about NHS from a national standpoint, please visit the following website: http://www.nhs.us/NHS Candidate Application Information:Invites were given in paper to eligible candidates on 8/29/2017.Deadline for application is 9/5/2017.Application Steps:1. fill out Membership Application Form (link will be active September 2018)2.
