Latin American Literature/Day of the Dead
As an introduction to my Latin American unit, we will briefly study the Day of the Dead and create a Day of the Dead altar in our classroom (most of the altar is actually an exhibit on loan from Duke/UNC's Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies). The attached article may be used as an elementary introduction to the holiday. Our constructed response to be used with this article is:As a result of researching Latin American culture, using the Scholastic Action article "Day of the Dead, write two paragraphs comparing and contrasting the Day of the Dead holiday with the American version of Halloween.
