    Dear Parents,

    Please review all the items listed with your child.

     Reminders and Dates:

    • October 29th no school teacher workday
    • November 5th is a teacher workday
    • November 11th is a holiday no school
    • November 27-29 Thanksgiving Holiday Break no school
    • November 8th is awards day. At our conference time I will send home a white half sheet to let you know if your child will receive an award at 815 in the gym or get to watch a movie at 1:00 on November 1st.  We used to do awesome eagle awards for good behavior------ but we are doing a special movie and popcorn instead.

     What we are learning:

    -our names and to write them using a capital for the first letter and lower case letters for the rest-Please learn all the letters in your name.

     -Writing:  draw a picture and writing a sentence using I see a ______.  I like ______.  I like to _______. What did you like about the field trip?

     -Rhyme:  say a word and they make a rhyme for the word

    -Syllables:  clap, stomp, or chomp words to hear the syllables in them

    Youtube: Jack Hartman syllable song---very fun!!

     -Reading:  We have been reading books about Trapdoor Spiders and Bats.  We are learning about the main topic and the key details about the topic.

     -Science: maps (class, school, community)

     --Letters and sounds:  We have started learning the letters b, f, t, m, n, i, u, c, o, a, g. We use a letter, keyword and sound.

    So practice b bat /b/, f fun /f/, t top /t/, m man /m/, n nut /n/, I itch /i/, u up /u/, c cat /c/, o octopus /o/, a apple /a/, g game /g/.  Please review these daily.

     --Words: We are starting words of the week this week.  We have 100 to learn this year.  I need your help with this task.  Please go over the words as much as possible at home.  I have sent home a bag with the word cards.  Please keep the papers at home to practice doing the activities with the words.  There is a ring included.  Please hole punch them and keep them on the ring.

    Ice Cream!!  I will buy ice cream for all the students that know their 9 sight words.  I will use the cards at school to assess them on the 28th of October.  If they miss one or some, they can try every day after that to get ice cream.

     -Writing:  draw a picture and tell a story about the picture (who-where-what is happening)  We drew a picture about Fall.

     -counting objects at home up to 10 then try 20 when ready

     -Youtube ABC songs: ABC Hip Hop, Jack Hartman ABC songs, Jack Hartman has a lot of rhyming songs 

    -Reading:  We have been learning that you ask and answer questions when reading an informational book about pumpkins.

     

    -Math: numbers 0-10, counting objects by touching, counting out loud, move and count, count and say the last number and subitizing.  Jack Hartman has a subitizing song to 5.  Watch it!  Practice writing numbers 1-10.

     -Science: seasons-name and describe them

    --Letters and sounds:  We have started learning the letters b, f, t, m, and n. We use a letter, keyword and sound.

    So practice b bat /b/, f fun /f/, t top /t/, m man /m/, n nut /n/. 

    I have sent home an ABC paper.  Please use that in the paper protector and find the letters we have been learning.  Practice writing them at the bottom.

     -Writing:  draw a person with a head, body, legs, arms, eyes, nose, mouth, hair and clothes and draw a picture that tells a about a cookie you like and why and then share it with a buddy

     -counting to 20 then 30 when ready

     -Youtube ABC songs: ABC Hip Hop, Jack Hartman ABC songs, Jack Hartman has a lot of rhyming songs

    Please ask your child to make a rhyming word with a word you say.  Example:  you say cat they say bat

     -Rhyme:  sing songs like Down by the Bay and have your child rhyme words, tell them two words like dog and log- they give thumbs up or cat and mouse they give thumbs down for no rhyme

     -Reading:  We have been learning about asking and answering questions when reading a story.  Use the words who, what, and where with your child when reading to them.  Let them ask questions about the pictures before reading to them.

     

    -Math: number of the day, writing and counting numbers 6-10

    We used a die to count the dots.  Please play games with a die at home.

     -Science: textures that are in the world- find different textures at your house

     Needs:

    Prizes for prize basket (candy, pencils, stickers, etc.)

    I have included in your child’s Monday folder a poem for each number 1-10.  Please keep the sheet and put it in the page protector.  I have sent you an expo marker to keep at home.  I will be sending other sheets you can slide in and use over and over.  Your child can write with the marker on top of the page protector and do this nightly.  Please practice writing b, f, and t in the page protector as well.

    What we are learning and things to ask your child:

    Where is the front or cover of the book? Back of the book? Title?  Title page? Where are the author and illustrator’s names?  Point to 1 word.  Point to 2 words. Point to 1 letter and 2 letters.  Point to a capital letter and a lower case letter.  Point to a period.  Where do you start to read a book?  Which way do I point?  (left to right)  Who are the characters? Where is the setting of the book? Where is the first part of the sentence?  Where is the last part of the sentence?  Have your child point to the words as you read.  Show me a letter.   A word.  A sentence.

     Every sentence starts with a ______ letter and ends with a ______.  (capital, period)

    Please watch the way your child holds a pencil.  Make sure they are pinching it with 2 fingers and resting it on the other 3.  Try using a cotton ball to hold with 3 fingers that turn in!!

     Have them show you their left and right hands.  Left hand makes an L out of the thumb and pointing finger!!  They know how to do this!!!

     Dear Parents,

     Please review all the items listed with your child.

     Reminders:

    -label all money (name and what the money is for) and return signed forms in folder

    -wear tennis shoes or closed toe shoes every day for the playground

    -send a healthy snack and water bottle daily (it is a quick snack)

    -Tuesday is picture day 17th

    -Wednesday is no school for teacher workday 18th

    -put snack in a different bag from lunch please- if possible, do not send snacks in a lunch box, they think it is a lunch

     -class t-shirt money is due

    -In the morning, you can drop off kindergarten children in front of the gym, even if their siblings are in an upper grade.

    -lunch is at 12:40 please come if your child is ready for this-  check in at the office and get a visitor sticker and meet us in the cafeteria.  We sit to the right of the door.

    -If your child goes home a different way, please call the office.  I may not see the note.

    -Math- number of the day, count to 20, taller/shorter, longer/shorter, heavier/lighter--- have your child find items taller and shorter than an item at home etc.

    -colors- Pete the cat colored shoes, color songs, Brown Bear Brown Bear—try sorting cereal by colors at home, we made necklaces with fruit loops

     What we are learning and things to ask your child:
