    Greetings and Welcome:

It is with great excitement that I say hello and welcome to all as Pleasant Grove Elementary's Professional School Counselor! It is so wonderful to see the growth over the past five years. My role is the daily support of all students to foster an outstanding learning experience each day!  My interactions with students will always have a PBIS and character education (Positive Behaviors Interventions and Support) focus of  Safety, Respect and Responsibility.

What do I do? My role as a counselor includes direct services to students and parents, leading the Student Support Services Team, coordinating services for students with disabilities, providing classroom behavior support via our PBIS/MTSS intervention program, providing classroom education lessons that are in line with the Core Curriculum for Professional School Counselors and other duties as assigned by the principal.

What is my education and experience? I am a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelors degree in Social Work. My Masters in Counseling is from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have over 13 years with ABSS serving first as a Crisis Social Worker and then School Counselor at Cummings High School before coming to Pleasant Grove. It is my belief that my years as a high school counselor gives me a unique perspective on working with young people.  I look forward to continued professional growth as I serve the students and families here at Pleasant Grove.

What about my family? Currently I reside in Durham, which has been home for more than 20 years. The sleepy town of Beaufort on the "Crystal Coast" of North Carolina is where I grew up, the fourth child in a family of nine children. My four children are all adults and together we navigated through public schools and college. Elon, East Carolina, UNC-Charlotte and Elizabeth City Sate Universities are the post secondary schools my children attended and/or graduated. My oldest son is also a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill's Eshelman School of Pharmacy completing his Doctor of Pharmacy. I share all of this to let you know that I do understand the trials and joys of parenting. You have my utmost respect for what you do to care for and develop your children.

I most sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve here at Pleasant Grove and invite you to call, visit or email me with questions, concerns, needs or suggestions. I am also available via Class DOJO. Thank you so much!
