• Games for Letter Practice:

    • First sound fluency:  look at pictures in a book/ magazine, name the picture, and ask your child “What is the first sound you hear in ball?”  

    • Sort the letters by capital and lowercase.  Match the capital letter with the lowercase letter.

    • Identify the letter and the sound it makes.

    • Use worksheet “Letters in my name/not in my name” to sort the letter cards.

    • Use crayons or markers to rainbow write letters and child’s name.

    • Play Go Fish with cards.

    • Write letters or child’s name in shaving cream on the table.


    Games for Sight Word Practice:

    • Use flashcards to practice.  If child says the correct word, they keep the card.  Then the parent says the correct word and keeps the card.  When you run out of cards, count and see who has more cards.

    • Play Go Fish with cards.

    • Play Slap It.  Lay sight word cards all over the table.  Call out the sight word, and child should slap the correct word.

    • Write sight words in shaving cream on the table.


    Games for Number Practice:

    • Use number cards to practice identifying numbers out of order

    • Use number cards to guess the missing number.  Line up numbers and ask your child “What number goes in the blank?”  4, 5, ____.                ____, 2, 3.               7,___, 9.

    • Play Slap It.  Lay numbers all over the table.  Call out a number, and child should slap the correct number.

    • Use number cards- Child should look at dots and identify the number.  They should try to do it without counting the dots.

    • Write numbers in shaving cream on the table.
