    FALL 2021 COURSES

     LITERACY ACADEMY (BLKs 1 & 4) & ENGLISH 1H (BLK 3)

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”                      Alvin Toffler   American writer and futurist

We're all in this together – students, parents, teachers. As we grow and learn, we uncover outmoded ways of thinking and acting that need to be “unlearned” so we can re-learn at a deeper level. The transition from middle school to high school is one of those opportunities to begin anew.

PARENTS - For EXPRESS  SERVICE – call my cell. I will provide my number to you.

    All others, email me.

STUDENTS – All I ask is three things: respect the learning environment, respect your peers, and respect yourself.

Reading is the running of school. You cannot play sports competitively without stamina and endurance; you cannot excel at school without reading skills that build your intellectual stamina.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: These courses sharpen your core skills in reading and writing. You will work with different literary genres and develop your creative and mechanical writing skills, and reading skills for college and career readiness.  Our work forges relevant intellectual links with your other classes. Blended learning, team-based, and inquiry-based learning are crucial to this class as they foster metacognition.

GRADING POLICY:  Literacy Academy and English I are on a traditional grading scale. Each category is weighted differently. The Final Grade consists of 40 % for each Quarter and 20% for the Final Exam.
