PTO Board Nominees for 2020-2021
Carrie Sivers was born in Virginia. She moved to North Carolina after college and worked for over 15 years in preclinical research specializing in Genetic Toxicology. She is married to Tim Sivers and has two little Gators Aiden (Second Grade) and Liam (Kindergarten).
After moving to Mebane from Durham over 4 years ago, she decided to become a stay at home mom and dedicate her time to her family. She keeps busy crafting, baking, volunteering and taking care of two very active boys! She enjoys the lake and being outdoors. She spends most of the summer kayaking, spending time on the boat and swimming with her family up at Lake Gaston.
Carrie knows the importance of family and looks forward to dedicating more time to the Gator family.
Casey Johnston was born in Burlington and grew up in the ABSS, graduating from Graham High School & journeying just 20 short miles down the road to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There she earned a degree in Communications & Psychology. In 2011 Casey married her best friend, Trent and moved back to Mebane in hopes of starting a family, as well as being closer to her family. Currently, she has a Kindergator, Sterling & a Second Gator, Orion. She loves volunteering and being a part of anything that makes others smile and feel loved. As a stay at home mom, she splits her time between taking care of her home, coaching basketball and baseball (for both Orion’s & Sterling’s teams), delivering Meals on Wheels, helping her parents’ at their family run sporting goods store, spreading knowledge about essential oils, planning parties, traveling, crafting, volunteering at her children’s previous Playschool, as well as The Swamp & with the Garrett PTO. She is a huge fan of team sports, especially college basketball, the NFL, MLB & anything her kids are involved in. In addition to being a volunteer coach at the Graham Rec, she has fallen in love with being a dance mom & most recently a dog mom (to Sampson, the most loving Saint Bernard). Sampson and Casey will set out on another dream later this year by becoming a certified therapy dog and handler for the pediatric cancer clinic at UNC-CH hospitals through their Tar Heal Paws program. Her team mentality combined with her heart for others are the things in life she is most proud of outside of her children and family. Casey is truly in her element when she is giving (back), whether it’s on the court/diamond, in the community, church, or at school--she thrives off of the love that she receives through her acts of servitude. She has said many times, “it takes a village” and that “the Swamp Life is the life for me.” Being a part of her children’s PTO board was put on her heart many years ago, when she was blessed to see her parents lead by example when they were the Presidents of her elementary school’s PTO. “In teamwork, love and passion, let us all join forces for the betterment of our children, school and community! I look forward to watching us all grow together as we develop lifelong friendships that make an impact on the NOW, as well as future generations, that are watching and learning from us, as both parents, teachers and leaders. Teamwork makes the dream work & together anything is possible!”SecretaryRebekah Slepitis was born in Michigan but grew up in Kentucky and Wisconsin. Her husband Eric grew up in New Jersey and they met in college in South Carolina. They have been married for 13 years and have three children. Lauren is currently in the 3rd grade, Emma is in the 1st grade, and Jacob is 2. They have lived in North Carolina for the past 5 years.Rebekah has been a stay at home mom for the past 7 years. When she is not chasing her 2 year old around she enjoys baking, organizing and playing the piano.
Whitney Robertson was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She met her husband, Jeremy, at church and they have been married for 11.5 years. They moved to Mebane from Fuquay-Varina in 2018 due to Jeremy’s new sales position with his job. They have 3 kids, Ava (10), Jax (6) and Ash (3). Whitney currently is a stay at home mom. It has always been a dream of hers to be a hands-on mom for her kids and to be able to show up to events when needed. Before staying home Whitney had been a preschool teacher for 10+ years. Working with children has always been her passion, but becoming a Mom made her realize just how much she wanted to be with her own. As her kids started going to school she realized volunteering at her kids’ school was the next best thing to them being home. Remembering how AMAZING the PTO was in her own elementary school has given her the desire to help make Garrett PTO rise up to that same greatness. Things Whitney enjoys doing outside of being a Mom are crafting, cleaning/organizing, photography, and most of all spending time with all her family.
