• After your child reads a non-fiction book you can ask them some of the following questions to make sure they understood what they read.

    • What is the main idea of the story?  or  What is the story mostly about?
    • What are some details that support the main idea?
    • What was the most intersesting thing you learned?
    • Was there something that confused you about the book?
    • How did the photographs help you understand the story?
    • What is the problem and solution in the story?

     

     

    After your child reads a fiction story or book you can ask them some of the following questions to make sure they understood what they read.

    • Who are the main characters in the story and what are they like?
    • What is the setting of the story?
    • What is the problem and solution in the story?
    • How does the main character react to the problem?
    • Would you like to be friends with the main character? why or why not?
    • How did the story end?
