The development of number concepts is the foundation and heart of math for young children. Giving children multiple opportunities and experiences with numbers is important to develop number sense as the deep understanding of number concepts and relationships takes time to develop.
As teachers and parents we are important reading role models for our students and children. Our children need to see us reading and need to hear us talking about our reading.
Reading to your child is also very important. Listening comprehension comes before reading comprehension. There is a kind of "word reservoir" in a child's brain and it is important to "pour" as many words into that reservoir so that it overflows into speech and then reading and writing.
