Prerequisite: Middle School Band and High School BandThis course is designed for students who have had previous training in percussion studies. Rehearsal and performances include two evening rehearsals per week, participation and performances at home JV football games, home Varsity football games, marching band festivals, and holiday parades.This course is open to all instrumental music upperclassmen who wish to study advanced musical compositions and performances. Students are strongly encouraged to audition for All-County Band as well as All-District Band.Jazz Ensemble: Prerequisite: Middle School Band, High School Band and Director Approval
This course is designed for students who have had previous musical training at either the middle school or high school level and wish to pursue another genre of music. Instrumentation is limited to the traditional jazz band standards. Students will experience American Contemporary music ranging from big band standards to current standards. Emphasis will be placed on playing, performing complex rhythms, major, minor, and modal scales as well as improvisational techniques.
The study of music is cumulative and sequential to include learning from previous levels. Students at the high school level will have the option of studying an individual arts discipline as an area of interest or specializing or completing a concentration in studies to prepare them for further education and/or a career in the arts. A student’s entry into a specific high school proficiency level will be based upon his/her student profile or prior experiences in music.
