This is my 14th year teaching the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Program (NJROTC) also known as the Citizenship Development Program. I have been teaching at Western Alamance High School since 2010. I have a Master Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Teaching and Learning from Fort Hays State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a Minor in Asia Studies from the University of Maryland Far East Division. I have spent 25 years traveling throughout the Far East and Pacific Region. I considered Japan my second home after living in the Land of the Rising Sun for 20 years. Additionally, I was an advisor to the English Club of the University of the Ryukyu in Okinawa, Japan and a guest speaker on numerous occasions at high schools, junior high schools, and private schools in Okinawa, and liaison with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in Atsugi, Japan. With a love of history, prior to their passing I have been fortunate to catch a glimpse of Emperor Hirohito, meet Nobuo Fujita the only Japanese pilot who flew bombing runs over Oregon in 1942, and meet Mother Teresa and visited various World War II battles sites throughout the Pacific Region. I bring all of my experiences of traveling the world into the classroom so that students have a deeper understanding of global awareness and of other cultures.
