A Little Bit About Me
My name is Michele Claypool. This will be my 23rd full year at Haw River Elementary.
I am originally from Erie, Pennsylvania and graduated from Mercyhurst College, which is now
Mercyhurst University. I graduated in 1992 with a BA in Elementary and Early Childhood Education.
I taught in pre-school in Ohio and a private school in Pennsylvania before coming to North Carolina.
I moved North Carolina in February of 1997 after accepting a 4th grade teaching position at Haw River.
In my little more than 23 years at Haw River I have taught 4th grade, 3rd grade, 1st grade and Kindergarten.
I have spent a majority of my years, at Haw River teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade.
This year I have moved from being in the classroom full-time to the position of Literacy Coach.
This gives me the opportunity to work with all of our teachers and children. As a coach I will be working
with the teachers on lesson plans, locating resources, and analyzing student assessent data. I will be working
with the children in whole groups or small groups by providing demo lessons and activities for their students.
My husband and I have two daughters, Paige and Bailey. Paige, our oldest daughte, who is a 2016 graduate of East Carolina University.
She has a degree in Human and Family Realtions with a minor in Psychology. Paige currently works for Novant Hospital and OMB, in Charlotte
and is pursuing a degree in nursing from Carolinas College of Health Sciences.Bailey is currently a junior at Appalachian State University pursuing
a degree in special education. We also have 3 dogs, Oliver, Wally, and Elliot.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning with our children.
