Mrs. Ivona Walker
English III & IV
I am an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology in 2004 and a Master of Arts - Teaching in 2005. In addition to my academics, I was a four-year starter on the Varsity Fencing team at Carolina, as well as a team captain. Since graduating, I have stayed involved in the sport by continuing to coach and fence at the club at UNC.
This is my 10th year teaching at Southern, and I look forward to another great year. I have taught English II, III, and IV and look forward to getting to know another batch of young minds. I have a passion for literature, reading, and writing, and will do my best to share my enthusiasm with my students.
In addition to teaching, I am also a wife and mother. My husband teaches Introduction to Biomedical Science at East Chapel Hill High School, and we welcomed our son Thomas into the world on January 28, 2012 and our preemie daughter Lillian on April 9, 2014. The rest of my family is spread out in Pennsylvania, New Jersey (where I grew up), New Hampshire, and even Poland and Germany; I am proud to be a first generation American. I have been fortunate enough to travel to Europe many times to see my parents' families, and I am always happy to share those experiences. I firmly believe that everyone that is able to do so should travel in order to see the world from another perspective.
Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns via email or the school phone.
