How Does Title I Money Benefit Your Child?

For the 2019-2020 school year, we have received $139,788 in federal government funds that are called “Title 1 Funds.” We use this money to strategically purchase instructional resources to support student learning. We can also use this money to fund teacher positions to reduce class sizes. Our School Improvement Team agreed that we would use our Title I money to fund one classroom teacher and make our music teacher position full time since we have become an A+ school.

Right now, all of our 15 classrooms have an average of 19 students per class, with all classes having 23 children or less. If we had not funded these an extra classroom, our average class size would have been 23 children, with some classes of over 25 children.

Below are expenses thus far. You can see that the funding of two teacher positions accounts for $83,332 or over 60% of our Title 1 funds. We believe this expense is a priority to keep class sizes small and help boost A+ at Sylvan Elementary.
