    Mrs. Popa
    ESL Teacher
    Room 307
Welcome, parents and students, to my website. I am entering my 29th year of teaching and my fifth year of teaching at Cummings High School. I graduated from the University of Bacau and Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, with a major in English and French languages and literature. I taught English as a Foreign Language for many years in my home country, Romania, before I came to the United States to teach ESL at Stonewall Middle School in PWCS, VA in 2007. I have been teaching at Cummings since 2014.
I have enjoyed working with English language learners from different parts of the world through a variety of texts, media, and discussion. I love learning about the culture of my students by doing multicultural activities. In my free time, I enjoy practicing Spanish. I speak Romanian, French, and English, and the experience of learning other languages informed the way I teach English to my ESL students and how I assess their progress. Teaching requires patience, understanding, compassion, and enthusiasm - all things that I am more than willing to provide on a daily basis.
Students who need extra help or who need to make up are encouraged to attend the Learning Center on Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30. Transportation will be provided by the school at 5. Parents can also choose to arrange their own transportation.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions at Carmen_Popa@abss.k12.nc.us. I am also available for phone calls during my planning from 1 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. I look forward to hearing from you!
