Upon arriving recently as the new principal at Pleasant Grove, I knew I had landed in a special place. The staff and students have welcomed me with open arms. Though not from Alamance County, I spent the last three years as the Assistant Principal at Altamahaw-Ossipee (A.O.) Elementary School in Elon. Prior to joining the staff at A.O., I spent twenty years as a classroom teacher in the Guilford County School System and six years as a Curriculum Facilitator, also in Guilford County. My entire career has been spent working with children and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t imagine living in a world without children!

At Pleasant Grove we strive to create an atmosphere that promotes learning and where children feel welcome and safe. Along with the majority of states throughout the United States, we are implementing the new Common Core Curriculum. The new curriculum is conceptually based and requires students to understand and reflect on a deeper level. The ultimate goal is for our students to take ownership for their learning and enhance their understanding by applying skills learned across all content areas.

Research supports that children experience greatest success when parents and teachers work together. We want all of our parents to take an active role in their child’s education by attending parent teacher conferences, reviewing their child’s planner daily, and making sure their child comes to school each day rested, prepared to learn and with homework assignments completed. Showing an interest in your child’s school work and activities sends the message to your child that they are important and that school is important.

It is wonderful coming to work every day where the staff is committed to educating the whole child – socially, emotionally and academically in a loving, supportive environment!
