Thank you for visiting the Principal's page! My name is Scott Lewis and I am the principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary. Pleasant Grove Elementary is a rural school with a rich history that dates back to 1928. Many of our students have relatives who also attended Pleasant Grove. We are a small school, with less than 300 wonderful students!I am originally from Gibsonville and grew up on a tobacco farm in which a strong work ethic was instilled in me at a young age. I graduated from Elon University and taught physical/health education in Person County for 5 years. In addition, I coached boys basketball at Person High School. I came to ABSS in 2008 as a physical/health education teacher at Grove Park Elementary. I became an assistant principal at Southern Alamance Middle School in 2013. While I enjoyed middle school and learned many valuable leadership lessons, I wanted to serve the students at the elementary level again and was fortunate to become the assistant principal at Haw River Elementary in which I served until I was selected to be the next principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary. With that said, I am excited and honored to serve as the principal of Pleasant Grove Elementary.
At Pleasant Grove we strive to create an atmosphere that promotes learning and where children feel welcome and safe. All students participate attend art, music, physical education, media, computer and STEM classes weekly. Additional staff positions include: AIG, ESL, EC, Interventionist, Academic Coach, Counselor, Social Worker, and Nurse. Instruction is based on the Common Core. The curriculum is conceptually based and requires students to understand, reflect and synthesize information. The ultimate goal is for students to take ownership for their learning and enhance their understanding by applying skills learned across all content areas.
Research supports that children experience greatest success when parents and teachers work together. We want all of our parents to take an active role in their child’s education by attending parent teacher conferences, reviewing their child’s planner daily, and making sure their child comes to school each day rested, prepared to learn and with homework assignments completed. Showing an interest in your child’s school work and activities sends the message to your child that school is important. With that said, I am excited to serve the Pleasant Grove Elementary Community and know that I will work tirelessly with our teachers to support your "whole" child.
