Welcome to First Grade! It is my intent to make this a great year for your child! It is so amazing to watch students become better readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. In my classroom I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect with an emphasis on teamwork.
My name is Ashley McGehee and I am so excited to be teaching first grade at Highland Elementary. I earned my degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and taught in Guilford County for several years, where I was named Math Teacher of the Year. I then moved to Morristown, TN where I taught Pre-K at a local private church program. After having the opportunity to move to Burlington, I worked again for Guilford County Schools as a small group tutor for Reading and Math in grades 1 through 5. As my youngest child started school here at Highland, I accepted a position as an Instructional Assistant which was the perfect job for me while my children were young.
My husband, Greg and I have three amazing children. Lauren is a senior at N.C. State University - Go Pack!. My daughter Alexandra (Ally) is a senior at Western Alamance High School. She is a member of the dance team so if you go to football games look for her on the sideline! Parker is a sophomore in high school this year at Western Alamance. He is active in sports and always keeps us laughing. We enjoy traveling and spending time with our children and our dog, Chloe. We also love football and we especially like NCSU tailgates!
We have a very exciting, educational, and fun-filled year ahead. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments please feel free to e-mail me at any time. Together we make a great team!
