Hi! My name is Melaine Rickard, and I love being the AIG teacher at Western Middle School. I have taught in the Alamance Burlington School District for 23 years, with all of my teaching experience in middle school.I look forward to working with students, parents, and teachers this year. Math Counts Team TryoutsTryouts for the 2018 Math Counts Team will be held Wednesday, January 24 and Thursday, January 25 after school in Mr. Jones’s room, Room 207. You only need to attend 1 of the tryout sessions.The tryout consists of 30 math questions. You are given 40 minutes to complete all of the questions. Calculators are NOT allowed. All answers must be simplified to lowest terms.The Math Counts Team will consist of 1 team of 4 students and 4 students who will compete as individuals, for a total of 8 students.
There will be an informational meeting for parents of identified AIG students on Sept. 28, 2017, from 5-6 pm in the WMS Media Center.
If you cannot attend this optional meeting, information will be available online and/or sent home with your students.

Enrichment classes will meet from 8:20-9:28 in Ms. Rickard's mobile unit, # 93. This year ELA and math will meet together for the whole block of time. More details on how I will structure the enrichment time is coming soon!
Classes begin on Monday, September 11, 2017. I can't wait to get started!
We will be doing plenty of hands-on/minds-on activities this year. If you have any of the following items that you would be willing to donate to the class, we would appreciate it.
Legos or K'NEX pieces
Strategy and word games — Rubik's Cube, Jinga, Monopoly, Scrabble, etc.
Glue gun, duct tape, velcro, 2 sided tape, magnets
I also would appreciate tissues, Clorox wipes, paper towels, and hand sanitizer.
