The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

                 Alvin Toffler

We're all in this together – students, parents, teachers. As we grow and learn, we discover many outmoded ways of thinking and acting that need to be “unlearned” so we can re-learn at a deeper level. The transition from middle school to high school is one of those opportunities to begin anew.

PARENTS - For EXPRESS  SERVICE – call my cell. I will provide it to you.

    All others, email me.

STUDENTS – All I ask is three things: respect the learning environment, respect your peers, and respect yourself.

Reading is the running of school. Just as you cannot be competitive in sports without stamina and endurance, you cannot excel at school without reading skills

COURSE DESCRIPTION: These courses will sharpen your core skills in reading and writing for academic growth. You will work with different literary genres and develop your creative and mechanical writing skills and reading skills to exceed the demands of standardized state tests.  Our work will forge relevant intellectual links with your other classes. Blended learning, team-based and inquiry based learning are crucial to this class as they foster metacognition and college and career readiness.

GRADING POLICY:  Literacy Academy follows traditional grading; the English Honors class will be using Standards Based Grading. This method focuses on mastery of state standards through Learning Objectives.

The Final Grade consists of 40 % for each Quarter and 20% for the Final Exam.
