Mr. Sodano's Counseling Corner
“I pledge as a Garrett Gator to respect myself, my peers, and my teachers by following all school rules. I am here to do my best, and to learn something new. Today is going to be a great day!”
-Garrett Gator Pledge
RESPONSIVE SERVICES: I can help meet students' immediate needs via responsive services such as individual and/or group counseling, consultation with parents, teachers, and administrators, referrals to our Student Services Team (including our social worker, Mrs. Ambraya Timmons, and our school nurse, Mrs. Mary Taylor), referrals to outside agencies, peer mediation, information gathering and coordination.
PBIS/GUIDANCE SUPPORT: At Garrett Elementary, all students and staff adhere to our Gators R.O.C.K. matrix - our Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program. I work with all teachers and students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, to facilitate our positive approach to helping kids feel connected, capable, and cared for. The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) process is followed at Garrett Elementary. PBIS is a “proactive systems approach to school-wide discipline designed to be responsive to current social and educational challenges through assessment and development of effective interventions.” Our PBIS team has worked diligently to develop school-wide procedures, expectations, consequences, and rewards. It is the goal of Garrett Elementary School to provide a happy, safe and orderly learning environment that allows all students the opportunity to learn.
STUDENT SUPPORTING ROLES: I also serve on the School Improvement & Leadership Team, chair the Section 504 Team, chair the PBIS Team, and serve on the Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) Team.
