Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Michelle Hayes

I am a native of Alamance County.  I attended R. Homer Andrews Elementary, Broadview Middle School, and Hugh M. Cummings High School.  Based on my educational experience in ABSS, I received a full scholarship to attend North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC where I received a Bachelors of Art Degree in English Secondary Education. Following graduation, I started my teaching career at Bragg St. Academy in Sanford, NC.  Bragg Street Academy gave me wonderful skills that I utilized in my position in Guilford County Schools as a high school teacher. While in Guilford County, I worked at Northeast Guilford High School and James B. Dudley High School as an English teacher, drama teacher, and speech and debate coach, and summer school administrator.  I also had the opportunity to work at NC A&T State University as the Director of the Reach Higher Program. I started my school administrative journey at Southeast Guilford High School as an assistant principal for two years. Following Southeast Guilford High School, I chose to try a different grade level, so I became the assistant principal at Kernodle Middle School for two years.  With my wealth of experience, I accepted the challenge when I opened Guilford County’s first middle school alternative school, High School Ahead Academy (HSAA), where I served as principal for 10 years. HSAA closed its doors in 2017, and I became the Director of GCS’s ACES Program, Afterschool Enrichment Program for 1 year. Working in a school is my passion, and I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to serve as principal at Graham Middle School’s starting November 2018.  Throughout my educational journey, I have learned a lot and experienced great memories and great challenges, and I look forward to continue making great relationships with students, staff, parents, and community, who I consider my extended family. My goal is not only to increase academic achievement, but also to continue to build strong relationships with my GMS family. I look forward to the 2019-20 school year and many more years to come at GMS.
