• Hello, families!! Welcome to Kindergarten  for the 2019-20 school year! My name is Michelle Ledford and this will be my 24th year of teaching young minds. I have taught grades K-2, but I have to say Kindergarten is my favorite age to teach! I graduated from UNCG with a bachelors of science in elementary education back in 1995. I also have an add on licensure I received from HPU for advanced learning certification.

I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful school and work with your children! Kindergarten is a crucial year for these little ones and I will work hard to provide them with a positive and fun-filled experience they will always remember. Kindergarten at Highland is very busy and I encourage you to keep up with up to date info and messages primarily through class dojo, school messages, and weekly newsletters that will be sent home.  We will be using Fundations as a phonics program that will help your child with segmenting and blending sounds, tricky words, and letter formation. It is a great program that I have used in the past and have seen phenomenal results. We will also use Eureka Math as our core math program. I think you will like this  program because the skills will continue to build upon each other and will spiral throughout the year. We will be using daily five literacy instruction and your child will be placed in a leveled reading group that will meet many times throughout the week to work on comprehension, decoding skills, and written expressions. Also, we will be doing something new this year called W.I.N time which is individualized literacy  instruction of what your child needs to be successful. We will have WIN time each morning across the grade level from 8:10-8:40.  I am excited to see high growth in each and every one of your children this year and can't wait to be a part of this learning journey together. Thank you for sharing your child with me!  If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me!!
