February 21 - Grab 'n Go meals update from ABSS

This is an important message from Alamance-Burlington Schools regarding the current Bus Stop and Grab and Go Meals programs. On March 1 when elementary students begin returning to in-person learning for families that have chosen the in-person learning option, the current Bus Stop and Grab and Go Meal program will change.

Buses will be needed to transport children to and from school and Child Nutrition staff will need to resume their in-school operations to feed children in schools each day.

Beginning March 1, families may pick up free lunch meals as well as breakfast for the next morning each school day at 33 school sites. There is a list of the school sites and meal pick up times posted on the ABSS website and attached to this email. Your child does not need to be a student at the school where you go to pick up meals. This free program, sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture, is still available through the end of the school year for any child age 18 and under who lives in Alamance County.

Beginning March 1, the bus stop grab and go meal program will continue to run its current regular meal routes only on Wednesdays which is a remote learning day for all ABSS students in grades K through 12. If you have been visiting the bus stop daily to pick up meal bags, the bus will now only deliver a free lunch and breakfast for the next morning only on Wednesday each week, beginning on March 1.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, families will need to visit one of the 33 school sites to pick up free breakfast and lunch meals for their students. The list of the 33 school pick up sites and times for food pick up is posted on the ABSS website (and attached to this email).

The list of bus stop grab and go routes for Wednesdays beginning in March is also posted on the ABSS website.

Thank you for your continued support for our Child Nutrition and Transportation teams who continue to work hard to support the children in our schools. If you have any questions about the change to the free meals program, please contact your child's school.

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I have some updates and reminders for this week.  We are testing 3rd graders this week at school with the Beginning of Grade reading assessment.  A separate connect ed will go out to the students with their specific days to come to school.  Progress reports will be released this Friday at 3:00.  Parents can access the progress reports through the Parent Portal in Powerschools.  If you haven't activated your Parent Portal account, please contact Ashley Pawson and she can assist you.  We have posted the return to school communication information on the website.  Please let us know if you have any questions.  I hope that everyone has a great week.

    February 12

Good evening South Graham Elementary family:

As we prepare to open school for those students who will be attending in-person learning on their assigned cohort day, we wanted to make sure you had a copy of our personalized plan. This communication will also be placed on our school website.  We have shared many times over the last several months how we have been working to ensure all staff and students are able to have a safe in-person learning experience through our defined processes and protocols.  If you have any questions after reading through this document, please do not hesitate to contact our office

    February 7

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I want to let everyone know that we are currently accepting used computer monitors for our teachers' classrooms.  Any donation would be greatly appreciated.  Continue encouraging your students to participate in their classes and attend on a daily basis.  We really appreciate everyone's support and help with your student's education.  Have a great evening and I look forward to seeing everyone this week.

    February 2nd

Parents, if you have already let us know that you want your child to return to in-person learning on March 1, or if you prefer for your child to remain in all-remote learning, your decision will need to remain unchanged through the remainder of the school year. Currently we have our face to face students scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and virtual students scheduled for Thursday and Friday with the exception of four classes in K and 1st grade who will serve both virtual and face to face throughout the week. Those teachers will contact parents with their students' scheduled days.  Wednesday will remain as a virtual day for everyone. This was scheduled in order to ensure that all students remain with their current teachers.

In addition, if you have already let us know that your child will not be riding the bus, your decision will need to remain unchanged through the remainder of the school year.

In order to meet all of the social distancing requirements for in-person learning and for riding the bus, we are limited on our flexibility to make changes.

The deadline to let our school know if you need to change your decision about in-person learning or riding the bus is Friday, February 5. Please contact our office if you have questions or need to change your decision. Thank you for your continued support.

    February 2nd

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I want to remind parents to fill out the attestation form online prior to students returning to campus.  We have paper copies in the office.  3rd grade students will return to the campus to take the Beginning of Grade reading test that is required by the state.  We have scheduled students to take the test on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, February 15, 17 or 19.  The office staff is reaching out to families to let them know when their student is scheduled.  If you haven't talked with anyone in the office, please give the school a call.  We are on a regular schedule this week and we look forward to seeing everyone in class.

    January 18th

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I hope that everyone has had a good long weekend.  Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 19th, is a teacher workday.  Students will return to their regular schedule on Wednesday, January 20th.  As you know, we will not return to daily in person instruction on February 1st.  We will return on a cohort A/B model on March 1st.  If you want to change your learning option, please call the office, by Friday, January 22nd.  We are doing our best to not move students so be mindful of this if you want to change your student's learning option.  If your student is coming in person, remember to fill out the attestation.  If you have already filled it out, you don't need to fill it out again.  Have a good evening and please call the school if you have any questions.

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary School.  I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving vacation.  I want to reassure everyone that all safety and health precautions have been taken at the school over the vacation and that we will be on a regular schedule tomorrow with our Pre-K and Adaptive students.  Progress reports will be available for viewing through the Parent Portal starting on Thursday, December 3rd.  If someone one would rather have a paper copy, you can let your teacher know and we will print one and have it available for parents to pick up.  Please call the school if you have any questions and have a good evening.

    November 15

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I have a few updates for this week.  We are looking forward to our Pre-K and Adaptive students returning to school this week.  An online attestation was sent out to our returning students and that needs to be filled out prior to returning to school.  There is a thanksgiving meal distribution scheduled for Thursday.  All questions for that will be sent to Mrs. Brown, our school social worker.  Please call the school with any questions.  I hope that everyone has a good evening and I look forward to having students back in the building.

    November 8

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  There is no school on Wednesday due to the Veteran's Day Holiday.  There will be no lunch served on Wednesday as well.  Parents should have received report cards in the mail.  If you haven't received your student's report cards, please call the school.  Remember that students need to be online at 9:00 am as instruction starts immediately.  We have had a larger number of students log on late which causes a disruption to instruction.  Thanks for your help with this.  Call the school with any questions.  Have a good evening.

    November 1

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham.  School will be closed and no virtual instruction will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd.  We will continue to hold virtual instruction from 9:00 - 3:00 throughout the rest of the semester.  There is a School Improvement Team meeting on Monday afternoon starting at 3:15.  Please call the school if there are any questions.  Have a good evening.

Good evening parents this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  We are finishing our parent meetings concerning the transition to Plan B.  This Tuesday, we will meet with our Pre-K and Adaptive Curriculum Parents at 6:30.  We are still working on finalizing rosters for our transition to Plan B.  Parents should know the status of their child's teacher and cohort by the end of this week.  Please call the school if there are any questions.

    October 11

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I have reminders and announcements for this week.  I have scheduled parent zoom meetings for this and next week.  This is an opportunity to explain our procedures for reopening and to answer questions. There will be sessions for dual language classes K-5, K - 2 classes, 3 - 5 classes and adaptive and Pre-K classes.  The links will be included in the email and on Class Dojo.  Teachers will contact their students this week as we create the new classes for Plan B by the end of the week.  Please call the school if there are any questions.  Have a good evening.

    October 8

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  As we plan for students returning to school, we need to have numbers as close to finalized as possible.  All decisions for face to face or remote need to be received by tomorrow, Friday, October 9.  The district is asking that your decision for your student stay in place until the end of the 2nd nine weeks.  If the school hasn't heard from you or if you didn't fill out the survey, your student will be placed in face to face instruction.  There will also be some switching of teachers due to the numbers requesting either of the options.  We are trying not to switch students but in certain cases there isn't a choice.  Lastly, South Graham will not be able to offer before and after school care for the 2020 - 2021 school year.  If that causes a change in your decision please let the office know.  Thanks for your understanding and have a good evening.

    October 5

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  We have a number of reminders for this week.  All kindergarten and Pre-K students have to have their health assessments turned in within the next 26 days.  Please get those turned in as soon as possible.  If you haven't filled out the Plan B survey that was sent out, please call the school.  Our office has tried to reach  everyone that hasn't responded.  If there are any questions or concerns, please call the school and we will help you as much as possible.  Have a great evening and a great week.

    September 28

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I have some updates for this week.  It is a North Carolina Law that new Kindergarten students turn in an NC health assessment and proof of immunizations.  The Governor has announced that the new deadline is 10/30/2020, but it would be best to go ahead and make appointments and/or turn these things in sooner rather than later.  If you didn't feel out the survey concerning Plan B options, please call the school.  We can take your answers over the phone.  Progress reports are available to be seen through the parent portal on Powerschools.  Please call the school if you haven't activated the parent portal.  I hope that you have a good evening and I look forward to seeing your students virtually this week.

    September 14

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I have some reminders this week.  Students need to be on Zoom by 9:00 every morning.  We are looking at daily attendance and home visits could be scheduled if we find that students are not attending as they should.  We need all parents K - 5 to create a parent portal through Powerschools in order to receive information about the standards that your student has been instructed and the progress that they making on those standards.  Progress reports are scheduled to be released on September 24th.  We are not mailing out the progress reports so the only way to view their progress reports are through the portal.  You should have received information to create the parent portal and if you haven't please call the school and ask for our data manager, Ashley Pawson.  She can assist you.  Keep up the good work and please call the school if you have any questions.  Have a good evening.

    September 7

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I wanted to remind everyone that we don't have school tomorrow, September 7th and lunch isn't being served.  South Graham is sending home instructions on how to create your parent portal for powerschools.  This is so that parents can see what their students are doing in school.  This is different than Google Classroom.  Also when we release Progress Reports on September 24th, we will only release them through the parent portal in PowerSchools.  If you need assistance setting up your parent portal, please call the school and ask for our data manager, Ashley Pawson.  Have a good evening and please call the school if you have any questions.

    August 30th

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I want to say thank you to all the parents and staff members for continuing to work extremely hard to create success for our students.  I want to remind all parents to fill out the free/reduced lunch application online.  It is on our school website, district website and in your students' google classroom.  We also have paper copies available.  Tomorrow is the last day for universal free lunch.  Locations to pick up lunches after tomorrow will be sent out by the district.  I want to remind parents and family members that if your student is unmuted in the Zoom classroom, everyone can hear any background noise and conversations.  We have had some instances of inappropriate language being overheard in the background.  Thanks for your help with this.  We also want to ask that students have their cameras on when the teacher requests it.  It is important to be able to see the students and engage with them in a way that isn't able when the camera is off.  Have a great evening and call the school if you have any questions.

    August 24th

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I want to thank all of our parents for all of their hard work this past week.  Our students wouldn't have been as successful if their parents had not worked so hard.  The school will call when hotspots are available.  The district has ordered another 1000 hotspots.  If you didn't fill out the survey and need a hotspot, please call the school and we will put you on a waiting list.  We are asking that students please turn their cameras on during live Zoom meetings.  The reason for this is so that we can ensure the engagement of the students.  We would appreciate your help with this.  Please call the school with any questions and we will do the very best that we can to support your family.  Have a good evening and we look forward to seeing everyone online.

    August 2

Good evening parents, this is Elizabeth Stamper, principal at South Graham Elementary.  I want to remind everyone to go online and fill out returning student information.  This is done through Powerschools.  All returning students have to have this completed as soon as possible.  If you have questions or need assistance, please call our data manager, Ashley Pawson, at the school.  I have also included two surveys that all parents need to fill out.  The first survey is for transportation and the need of device or hot spot.  The second survey concerns when your student will be able to receive direct instruction from their teacher.  We need both surveys filled out so that we can plan accordingly.  We are currently completing kindergarten screeners for our new kindergarten students.  Please call for an appointment if you haven't done so. Have a good evening and please call the school with any questions.
