Western Middle reached out to find out about the Spectrum Cable offer of free internet during this pandemic:

Our investigator writes: I took the time to call Spectrum to see if there's any restraints with the free internet. I wanted to share some information regarding what families may encounter upon requesting internet:

Qualifying students must meet the following:
    • Provide proof of at least one K-12 student
    • Must be a new customer (installation and activation waived)
    • Reside in an area serviced by Spectrum
    • Customers with existing phone and tv accounts are eligible
    • Customers upgrading their broadband speed to the 100 Mbps
Services will not be offered if the following applies:
    • Bad prior debt (past due accounts, collections, non returned equipment)
    • Out of the Spectrum service zone
    • Must not have disconnected services within the last 30 days
Although this helps ease the strain in this challenging time, there's still gray areas that will affect our students and communities.

Hello Western Middle Families, this is principal Greg Holland with important information in regards to the upcoming transition to online distance learning. Western Middle, along with all ABSS schools, will officially begin online learning on April 1st. Teachers will be communicating with students through a variety of methods to deliver quality instruction during the mandated school closure. This is an unprecedented and challenging situation for all concerned, but we are committed to continuing to provide quality learning. We understand that some students do not have an internet connected device available. We are deploying devices for students who do not have a device, and there will be specific times by grade level to pick up a device. If you have a device please do not get one from the school. We have a very limited number of devices available, and we want to make sure that students who truly need one get one.

We will deploy the devices at the following time on Thursday, March 26 at the following times. 6th grade 11:00-1:00, 7th grade 1:00-3:00, and 8th grade 3:00-5:00. Pick up will take place in the media center. Parents and student will need to come because students will need to logon prior to taking the device. Please do not bring additional family matters or others into the building as we are trying to limit the number of people as we try to adhere to the guidelines for gathering and social distancing. Also, students may drop off any completed paper packets in bins at the front door marked by grade level.

    Stay safe and stay well.
