    Dear Parents & Students,

Welcome to what is going to be an awesome year in FirstGrade! Our grade level team is thrilled to have you with us at South Graham Elementary School!

My name is Ms. Suzanne Faull & I am so excited about this opportunity to be your First Grade teacher! I am originally from South Africa (which is way down in Africa) but I have spent the past yearof my career connected to the VIF Program & working in international education. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree (with a Major in Elementary Education), as well as my Honors Bachelor of Education (Elementary Education with specializations in Special Needs Education) from The University of South Africa in Pretoria, South Africa. After graduation, I accepted a job in Johannesburg where I taught First Grade at Edleen Elementary for three years. After that, I spent 10 years teaching 7 th Grade at Mooifontein Elementary & Middle School, where I was also the Head of Department Guidance and Counselling just outside of Johannesburg, South Africa, after which I was promoted to Assistant Principal at Jeugpark Elementary and Middle School, where I taught 7th Grade for 3 years. I wanted to broaden my horizons and joined the VIF program in 2019, and joined the SGE family in Graham, North Carolina last year in August as First Grade teacher.

I know you must be wondering what interesting things First Grade will hold for you, so I will give you a few hints. This year you will gain a global perspective as South African information is infused into your regular subject areas. You will dive into one and two digit operations, measurement, working with money, & many other exciting Math activities. You will read, read, read – every day & every night - & will have the opportunity to indulge in both fiction & nonfiction (short stories, articles, novels, tall tales, myths, poetry, letters, & any kind of writing you can imagine)! You will become a talented author as you write, proofread, & edit your own sentences, stories, & even books. In Science & Social Studies, you will learn about weather, plants, forces & motion, patriotism, economics, & a wealth of information related to all of North America. Above all, you will learn a myriad of new things, grow as a student & achieve success in so many ways! For further information, check out our elementary curriculum online at www.abss.k12.nc.us.

I firmly believe that communication between school & home is vital for the success of your child. I am committed to ensuring that you are aware of everything which happens in class & hope that you will work with me to read messages, sign & return communication (including the Weekly Report Card), & assist with nightly homework. Check Google Classroom daily so that you are able to keep track of what your child needs to complete each & every day. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at any time. I can be reached at the school, or via email at: suzanne_faull@abss.k12.nc.us

I look forward to us working together to achieve success for all First Graders!

    Sincerely,

                                                                                     Ms. Suzanne Faull
