Olivia Miller, a fourth-grade student at Sylvan Elementary School in Snow Camp, holds her freshly painted 3-D Panther papier-mâché mask as she and fellow students complete work under the direction of Donovan Zimmerman, founder and director of PaperHand Puppet Intervention of Saxapahaw, and artist-in-residence working with the school on artistic expression through creating puppets.
Third- and fourth-graders at Sylvan Elementary School in Snow Camp have been producing animal character puppets native to India this week for the performance Friday, Oct. 25, of “The Jungle Book,” as the other grades were provided demonstrations of professional puppets. The Friday production will feature Donovan Zimmerman’s professional puppeteers as well as a processional and parade of the students’ puppets.
