November’s Student of the Month, Raegan Hughes, can often be found playing soccer, practicing guitar or reading a good book.
Raegan is 13 years old and an eighth-grader at Southern Alamance Middle School, where she loves to learn and participate in the Battle of the Books. Raegan also is an active member in the Burlington Youth Council, where she has developed a close friendship with its leader, Megan Siernos, who nominated Raegan for Student of the Month. After knowing Raegan for about two years, Siernos felt that Raegan deserved recognition for being so involved in her community at such a young age.
“And she’s not forced to do any of this,” Siernos said. “She does all of this because she wants to.”
Raegan lives with her parents, Dawn and Stephen Hughes and her younger sister, Devyn. Dawn was delighted to hear that Raegan had been selected as Student of the Month and felt that she definitely deserved it because “she likes school and is very dependable and responsible.”
After volunteering in her community, playing soccer, and showing off her knowledge of the most recent book she’s read, Raegan loves to kick back with her family and watch “The Voice,” which Raegan said “is much better than any other singing shows because the judges are hilarious.”
