Burlington Writers Club announces Student Contest winners

   On April 13, the winners of the Burlington Writers Club’s annual Student Contest were presented with certificates and trophies in the Council Meeting Room at Graham City Hall. Following the presentations, a reception for the students and their guests was hosted by the Alamance County Arts Council at the Captain White House. This competition is open to all Alamance County students in Grades 3 through 12, public, private and home schooled. Awards were presented as follows:

   Elementary School (grades 3 to 5)

   Fiction: First place-Reagon Morrison, 5th grade at Bradford Academy; Second place- Ava Acton, 4th grade at The Burlington School; Third place-Camila Morales, 4th grade at Elon Elementary; Honorable Mention-Shaan Shakil, 4th grade at Smith Elementary.

   Poetry: First place-Lucy Hawkins, 4th grade at Bradford Academy; Second place-Juan Silva, 4th grade at The Burlington School; Third place-Lamar Hines, 5th grade at Hillcrest; Honorable Mention-Meredith Hawley, 4th grade at Smith.

   Middle School (grades 6 to 8)

   Fiction: First place-Alyssa Cavalier, 8th grade at Veritas Home School; Second place-Benjamin Overby, 7th grade at The Burlington School; Third place-Sam Cryan, 8th grade at Veritas; Honorable Mention-Josh Geddes, 7th grade at The Burlington School.

   Poetry: First place-McNeil Johnston, 7th grade at Southern Middle; Second place-Caitlyn Morton, 7th grade at Southern Middle; Third place-Jacob Barnes, 8th grade at Veritas; Honorable Mention-Charles Ciriano, 8th grade, Blessed Sacrament.

   High School (grades 9 to 12)

   Fiction: First place-Noah Basil, 11th grade at Southern Alamance; Second place-Kaitlin Gillespie, 12th grade at Western Alamance; Third place-Bek Brannock, 10th grade at Veritas; Honorable Mentions-Audrey Simpson, 11th grade at Southern Alamance and Rebekah Davidson, 9th grade at Veritas.

   Poetry: First place-Jamie Rollins; Second place, Claire Blackwell; third place, Leah Rudd; Honorable Mention, Larrysa Lankhamdeng. All four are 11th graders at Southern Alamance.
