The Hawfields Middle School Select Choir did an amazing job at this year’s Elon University Choral Share, said Aria Westbrook, director.
As the only middle school invited, it was such an honor to perform amongst the “big kids” (other Alamance-Burlington high school vocal honor ensembles), said Westbrook.
“Our most special singers are doing such wonderful things in the world of music, and we received countless compliments on their self-discipline, maturity (both vocally and with their behavior), responsiveness to their conductors, and impressive performance,” said Westbrook.
“We got compliments not only from fellow ABSS high school choral directors, but special recognition at the end of the program from Dr. Knight (choral director at Elon) and from other ABSS high school choir members during casual
conversation,” she said.
The HMS Select Choir performed and has been under the direction of Westbrook and her student teacher, Jessica Zelenack (an Elon University student).
Zelenack conducted for the first time in front of an audience at this event and did wonderfully, said Westbrook.
Mrs. Laura Sam, former Williams High School choral director, was the accompanist.
Special congratulations went to the following students: Abbey Clayton, Chelsie Dawkins, Emily Fenton, Gracie Ficklin, Hailey Korzekwinski, Jordan Young, Joseph Sims, Josh Robinson, Macon Lawrence, McKenzie Rowland, Miranda Schorr, Morgan Loy, Patrick Richmond and Richard Williams.
