Southern Alamance High School is playing host tonight to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event that will feature music and an appearance by former professional football player Mike Minter.

Heather Holt, a teacher at the school, said other FCA and youth groups in the county have been invited to attend the 90-minute “Detour” event that will be in the Southern High auditorium. It starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. In addition to Minter, who played for the Carolina Panthers, the Justin Tesniar Band will perform, Holt said.

Holt said the organization will be accepting love offerings for the Jones and Wheeler families, who were both impacted by deaths caused by a drunken driver.

Darren Jones and Carl Wheeler were killed as they pushed a disabled van along the interstate and were hit by a car. Jones was a former student at Southern and Wheeler’s mother was a bus driver for the school.
