Instead of going across the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving, 17 students from Williams High School and their parents will be going across an ocean and through airport security, to Austria.

In addition to seeing the sites, this group of chorus students will perform seven concerts, including one at the International Advent Sing in Melk, Austria, and at the Sir-Karl-Popper Schule High School in Vienna. Some of their selections include “Hold Me, Rock Me” by Brian Tate and “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5.

Williams High School’s chorus performed at the Sir-Karl-Popper Schule High School in 2008. Prior to the performance, the school didn’t have a choral department, but Laura Sam, chorus teacher at Williams, said the group inspired the school to develop one. She received an email from the school that said: “we have wonderful memories of your visit to us (in) 2008 … it was kind of (a) kick-off for a good choral development in our school. To hear and to see that it is possible for young people to sing and travel with the music was encouraging!”

Because the Austrian school now has a chorus program, the Williams group will not only be performing at the school, but it will also get to hear their Austrian counterparts sing for them.
