A group of sixth-grade Southern Middle School students made a real difference when they hosted a benefit carnival in honor of their teacher’s uncle who has an incurable disease, and took part in an incurable disease project. They shared the project schoolwide to raise awareness of incurable diseases with emphasis on ALS. They collected $287. They went on to put together theme baskets to raffle with the help of other SMS students. The community became involved in the project with a carnival at Living Word Baptist Church in Graham and raised a grand total of $6,387, which was turned over to the ALS Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter.
