Year-round schools gear up for first day

Open houses and related events are planned for this week and next for students and parents in the Alamance-Burlington system’s yearround schools.

Here’s a look at what is planned at each of the system’s five year-round schools. The first day for students in those schools is Monday.

Graham Middle School:

Thursday: An event called “Where Everybody Belongs,” or WEB, is a survivor camp for sixthgrade students and their parents to help introduce them to middle school. Rising sixth-graders are asked to be at the school gym by 8 a.m. for information and activities.

 Parents are invited to return to the school for lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. There’s an afternoon session for parents and students from 1 to 3:30 p.m. During this time, students and parents will meet teachers, visit classrooms and attend break-out sessions on different topics.

 Wednesday: Open house for seventh- and eighth-grade students is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m.

Eastlawn Elementary School:

Open houses are planned from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday.

Haw River Elementary School:

Wednesday: Pre-kindergarten session at 5 p.m. for Spanish speaking families and 6 p.m. for English-speaking families.

Thursday: Session for grades 1 through 5 at 5 p.m. for Spanish speaking families and 6 p.m. for English-speaking families. July 26: Kindergarten session at 5 p.m. for Spanish speaking families and 6 p.m. for English-speaking families.

North Graham Elementary School:

 Meet-the-Teacher for all students and parents from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
