A SUMMER MATH PROGRAM at Alamance Community College paid off for most students who participated.
The program was designed to give Alamance-Burlington School System graduates and rising seniors a jump-start on college work.
Sonya McCook, head of the college’s math department, said:
72 percent of the students placed out of at least one semester of developmental math.
43 percent placed out of two semesters of developmental math.
29 percent placed out of three levels of developmental math. They placed into a college transfer math course. As part of the Math Bridge Program, students worked on math skills in a series of lab settings that included criminal justice, horticulture, biotechnology, machining technology and mechanical drafting.
