A SUMMER MATH PROGRAM at Alamance Community College paid off for most students who participated.

The program was designed to give Alamance-Burlington School System graduates and rising seniors a jump-start on college work.

Sonya McCook, head of the college’s math department, said:

  • 72 percent of the students placed out of at least one semester of developmental math.
  • 43 percent placed out of two semesters of developmental math.
  • 29 percent placed out of three levels of developmental math. They placed into a college transfer math course. As part of the Math Bridge Program, students worked on math skills in a series of lab settings that included criminal justice, horticulture, biotechnology, machining technology and mechanical drafting.
