When 17-year-old Alexandra Carter isn’t doing schoolwork, she’s doing what she loves the most — dancing. Alexandra was nominated for July’s Student of the Month by her proud mother, Dolores Carter. All of the classes she is taking during her senior year at Williams High School are honors-level.

“I was 3 years old when I was enrolled in dance. It is what I have always wanted to do.” She is on four competitive dance teams and dances at Xtreme Dance Academy in Mebane and she also helps choreograph for Teen to Teen Theatre and Alamance Children’s Theatre (ACT). Her most recent choreography project was for ACT’s production of “Mulan, Jr.”

“It’s tough and really tiring throughout the year. I don’t really think about it. I just go,” she said.

Even though she has so much to do, she still finds time to be with her family. When asked who inspires her most, the answer was “my mom. She just always has been so inspiring. She’s always been so supportive and we’re so much alike.”

She also enjoys art and has earned first and second place for her artwork at Williams. The first place art was a drawing in permanent marker of a lion, bobcat and a leopard overlapping one another. The second place art was an oil pastel perspective drawing of a house near a waterfall surrounded by flowers. Her favorite subjects are history and English. “I’m really interested in history. Like the Civil Rights and how far we’ve come. English, because I think it is like a form of art,” she said. Alexandra also models for Marilyn’s Model and Talent Agency in Greensboro. “It is really cool, actually. I like trying on a bunch of clothes that I wouldn’t normally wear. It’s a really great experience,” she said. Some of her choices for college include Elon University or University of South Carolina. Above all, she wants to major in dance and hopes to be come a professional dancer someday. So from taking advance classes at school, modeling, and choreographing, Alexandra Carter always finds time to dance to her own beat.
