Southern FFA Hunter Safety Team headed to state competition

The Southern Alamance High School FFA Hunter Safety Team is headed to state competition after earning second place in the 2012 District 5 Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournament.
The tournament is sponsored by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. It includes events in rifle, shotgun and archery marksmanship, as well as an orienteering challenge and wildlife knowledge test for middle and high school teams. It was held at Alamance Wildlife Club. Winning teams advance to the state championship tournament, which will be held at the Millstone 4-H Center near Ellerbe on Saturday.
Coached by FFA adviser Keith Jones, the Patriots earned secondplace Overall Senior Team, first place in Rifle, and first place in the Orienteering Challenge and Wildlife Knowledge competition. Junior Blair Faulkner earned the first place Overall Team High Individual Award in the Senior Division and the Fred Rorrer Sportsman Award for the highest tournament score among both Junior and Senior Divisions. In addition, three Southern team members earned perfect scores in the Senior Division Trap Competition: Cooper Dail, Blair Faulkner, and Aaron Wagoner.
