Senior program salutes military veterans

The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, sponsored locally by the Burlington Housing Authority, partnered with area schools and after-school programs to thank Alamance County veterans for their service to our country as their Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project. RSVP volunteers spoke with students of all ages, giving them information on local veterans. Students then wrote 150 thank-you letters to veterans, which will be distributed to veterans when they access services from the county Veterans Services office. Pictured, from left to right, are Connie Morse, RSVP project director; Tre Gant, student; Gladys Shaw, BHA education coordinator; Ameerah Gilmore, student; Aaron Jackson, 30-year U.S. Air Force veteran; Justin Singleton, Cevion Lea, Calisha Bond and Davianna Bumpass, students; Jeanne Allen, RSVP volunteer; and Phyllis Green, veterans services director.
