Southern Alamance High School’s FFA Junior Livestock Evaluation Team, from left, Caitlin Smith, Cassie Smith, Madison Sifford and Kyle Kennedy, earned First Place in the 2016 N.C. FFA Livestock Evaluation Junior Division Career Development Event on March 29 in Wake County. Sifford also earned Third Place High Individual in the state. Coaches are FFA Adviser Tasha Dawson and parent Steve Sifford. Participants are scored on how well they apply livestock evaluation skills learned in the classroom. Each team evaluates six classes of animals - one each of breeding cattle, market cattle, breeding sheep, market sheep or lambs, market swine and breeding swine - and defends their reasoning to a panel of judges.
