Puppet masters in Graham By Jessica Williams, The Times-News 9/26/18 Reprinted with permission.
North Graham Elementary School second- through fifth-graders were treated to a series of workshops with puppet master Hobey Ford from Sept. 17 to 21, thanks to an artist in residence cARTwheels grant. Students learned how to create shadow puppets, while teachers received professional development on how to incorporate puppetry into their lessons. Ford himself became interested in puppetry after taking part in an assembly on the subject when he was in the fifth grade.
North Graham is an A+ Arts school, which means the arts are woven into core subjects like math and history as well as electives to boost students’ interest in the material. The program recently received a $1,000 donation from members of the community.
