Garrett teacher pulls some strings By Jessica Williams, The Times-News 1/16/19 Reprinted with permission.
Garrett Elementary School music teacher Katie Hayes was able to give one of her fifth-graders a wonderful birthday surprise thanks to National Pawn.
The student had recently told her she had to quit playing violin because her family couldn’t afford the rent for the instrument, so when Hayes heard about a National Pawn social media contest to win a free Christmas gift of one’s choosing, she entered and asked for a violin. She won. Hayes picked the violin up from the Burlington National Pawn store and surprised the student on her birthday, Dec. 22.
This isn’t the first time National Pawn has helped out the school system. The company donated more than 100 gently used instruments plus $2,000 cash to Broadview Middle School’s music program in November.
