The power of reading aloud By Jessica Williams, The Times-News 2/13/19 Reprinted with permission.
E.M. Holt Elementary School celebrated World Read Aloud Day on Feb. 1 with a host of different activities. Parents, older students and other visitors read aloud to students. One such visitor was an educator in Zimbabwe who recorded a video to present to students in media classes. Third-graders used Flipgrid, a video-recording app, to create and listen to each other’s stories. And in art class, students heard Greek myths and made their own figure vases. According to the World Read Aloud Day website, children who are read to each day test almost one year ahead of children who are not read to each day.
