Southern students praise Duke (the dog) By Jessica Williams, The Times-News 3/28/19 Reprinted with permission.
Southern Alamance High School Animal Science II Small Animal students were visited by Officer Faucette and his German Shepherd K-9 officer, Duke, recently. Faucette answered students’ questions about working with animals in law enforcement, training, K-9 officer responsibilities, training requirements, canine police certification and K-9 officer retirement. He also explained that K-9 officers are chosen based on breed, personality, prey drive and eagerness to please their trainer, and demonstrated some of Duke’s knowledge. After the demonstration, students pet and praised Duke for a job well done.
