In its efforts to provide a beautiful new inclusion to Garrett Elementary School in honor a deceased former teacher, the school welcomed a large group of parents and local residents Saturday morning for the first annual Tracie G Fun Run, which raised proceeds for the proposed Gerringer Gardens project on the Garrett Elementary Campus.
Gerringer Gardens is the culmination of a vision to develop an outdoor learning and performance space for Garrett Elementary. Garrett Elementary is an A+ Arts school inclusive of drama, dance, music, visual arts, creative writing and media arts.
“This space, at the back of the school, currently features a strawberry garden and a newly planted weeping cherry tree,” a posting on Facebook states. “The master plan adds pavilions for performance, an outdoor music area, creativity walls, sensory paths, a natural play area, book boxes, and more planting areas.”
On Saturday morning, well over a hundred children and adults lined up to run and walk along the Hawfields Middle School cross country track. The 3K wound its way through the campuses of both Garrett Elementary and Hawfields Middle, giving everyone a brisk workout on a warm spring morning.
