ABSS receives 13 TangerKIDS Grants By Jessica Williams, The Times-News 6/12/19 Reprinted with permission.
Alamance-Burlington Schools received 13 TangerKIDS Grants totaling roughly $6,400 this spring. The largest grant was for $1,500 to establish a classroom library at Haw River Elementary. In her application, teacher Elizabeth Moize said she lacked the quantity and quality of books she needed to teach her students to read at grade level. The funds will purchase Scholastic books so students have a wide variety to choose from. The second largest grant, at $825, will fund an outdoor learning and leadership environment at Andrews Elementary School. Fifth-grade science teacher Julie Bethea will use the funding to purchase additional science materials and flexible seating, like exercise balls and wobble chairs, to keep students engaged and comfortable in class. One dollar out of every coupon book sold from Tanger Outlets is donated to fund educational programs in schools surrounding their locations.
