Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents of  U.S. residing in Alamance County.

Applicants must be attending high schools within Alamance County.

Applicants must be seniors, or 4th year students who, upon completion of  schools’ requirements, will be eligible for graduation during the current school year.
  - Must possess a grade point average of at least 3.0, 85 (100 pt. scale), B, or the equivalent for the 3 ½  years (7 semesters) of high school attendance preceding the last senior semester.
  - Must attach an official transcript for the preceding 3½ years of high school attendance.
  - Must be planning to enroll in a 2-year, 4-year accredited college or university within North Carolina, or enroll in a specialized trade school located in the State of North Carolina.

Applicants must comply with U.S. Selective Service requirements, if applicable, but does not have to enlist in a military service.

Applicants must not have been convicted of any felonies or indictable misdemeanors, as defined under the North Carolina General Statutes.

Applicants must not be in default or owe refunds to any student financial aid programs, whether private, state, or federal aid programs.

Applicants must attach a self-written letter to their application explaining why they should be awarded the LCpl. Alan D. Lam scholarship.

Letter must be typewritten, or computer generated and printed,
Not longer than 300 words on 1 to 3 double-spaced pages, 
Formatted with 12 or 14 point font size, and Times New Roman font type (as is the size and type in this application requirements memo), and …
Applicants’ letters will be judged on grammar, punctuation, content, and originality of thought.

Applicants must also attach a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or employer, etc. (must be unrelated to the applicant)

Deadline for submission of applications and attached, relevant materials is April 15,  annually.

Awarded scholarship proceeds will be forwarded to recipient’s school of choice for application to recipient’s bill.

Recipient must return awarded scholarship if recipient does not attend subject North Carolina college, university, or trade school by the Fall semester, following same-year graduation from high school.

The Detachment #1209 scholarship committee reserves the right to change, or waive any of the above requirements at any time.
