Husky Families,
It’s hard to believe we are just a few short weeks away from the start of the 2025-2026 school year! We hope your summer has been restful and refreshing. Below are several important announcements to help your family prepare for a successful start to the school year.
Infinite Campus: As you are aware, ABSS transitioned from PowerSchool to a new student information system, Infinite Campus (IC), over the summer months. This new platform will now be used to access student schedules, grades, attendance, and more. On Monday, August 4, parents/guardians will receive a message from ABSS with instructions on how to create their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. Please be sure to check your email to get started.
Open House - Wednesday, August 20: Due to our growing student enrollment, we will host a staggered Open House this year to ensure families have adequate time and space to connect with teachers and staff.
Designated Times:
6th Grade: 4:00–5:30 PM
7th & 8th Grade: 5:00–6:30 PM
If you have students in multiple grade levels, please plan to attend during the overlapping time window. This is a floating event, allowing you to:
Meet your child’s teachers
Learn about class expectations
Speak with representatives from our Academic Boosters and Athletic Boosters
Pick up bus route information
Please note: Schedule changes will not be made during Open House.
6th grade families are encouraged to park in the Garrett parking lot behind the building. Staff members will be stationed at the rear entrance to assist and guide you inside. Additional details and logistics will be emailed the week prior to Open House. We look forward to seeing you and kicking off another fantastic school year together!
25-26 Documents: Essential information for the new school year is available on the HMS website. Please take time to review the following documents before the first day:
First Day of School - Monday, August 25: Students may not arrive on campus before 7:15 AM. Between 7:15–7:55, students will be supervised in the gym. Homerooms will open at 8:00 AM, and all students should arrive by 8:20 am.
After-School Program (The Husky Den): HMS offers an after-school care program for students until 6:00 pm on school days. The cost of the program is $207 per month and must be paid in advance. Students in the program will have structured time to complete homework, independently read, and/or use computers to access educational websites. The program will not operate on teacher workdays or holidays. Families who participated in The Husky Den last year must re-register for the 2025–2026 school year. If you wish to enroll your child in the program, please use this link: Husky Den Enrollment Form
Traffic Director Position: As we prepare for the start of school, we want to make families aware that we currently do not have a Traffic Director to assist with morning and afternoon car rider traffic on Highway 119.
With our growing student enrollment, we anticipate heavier traffic, especially during the first few weeks. If you or someone you know may be interested in serving as the K - 8 Traffic Director for Hawfields and Garrett, please consider applying HERE or email Mrs. Acome directly at Lauren_Acome@abss.k12.nc.us.
Thank you for helping us spread the word and for your continued patience and support during arrival and dismissal!
Academic Boosters: Help us kick off the 2025–2026 school year by supporting our Back-to-School Staff Breakfast on Monday, August 18. The Academic Boosters will provide a hot breakfast for staff, and we’re asking for donations of fruit, drinks, and other breakfast items to make the event a success. Sign Up to Donate or Volunteer
Donation Drop-Off: All items should be delivered to the front office by Friday, August 15.
