This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.
Another week, another round of winter weather that we hope you are staying safe and warm during. As you have heard, tomorrow is our 5th remote learning day. Please review our Remote Learning Protocol so that you are aware of expectations for the day. Student attendance will be taken based on completing and submitting assignments. Students will be given time to complete assignments upon their return to school should they not have internet access or power at home.
Congratulations to Grant Mayle who has qualified to swim in the NCHSAA 5A State Swim Meet this weekend!
Second Semester Open House:
We will hold an open house for the second semester this Thursday, February 5th from 5:00-6:00. This is a great time for families to meet their students’ second semester teachers. At 6:00 we will have a meeting for all rising 9th graders. From 6:15-7:15, various groups including representatives from all departments and clubs at EA as well as CTEC, Graham Public Safety/Welding, and ACC will be in the gym for families to talk to about registration and opportunities for next year. We look forward to seeing you then!
National School Counselors Week:
This week please join me in celebrating our amazing counselors Ms. Cushman and Dr. Lyons. They work to support students academically and emotionally as well as guide them in decisions for their future. We would be lost without them. When you see them tell them how much we appreciate all they do!
ACC Info Sessions:
As we move into the spring registration season, Alamance Community College will be hosting an information session via Zoom on February 24th at 5:30 pm. You can sign up here. If your student is a rising Junior or Senior planning to take classes at ACC during the 2026-2027 school year, we strongly encourage you to attend one of the sessions. Topics covered include pathways open to high school students, scheduling ACC classes, transfer credits, and much more. See the attached flyers for additional info!
ABSS Rezoning Information and Timeline:
ABSS is launching a district-wide attendance zone planning process focused on balanced enrollment, efficient transportation, and the long-term stability of our schools. The district as evolved over time as some schools are over capacity and others have available space. New housing continues to shift the population. This process will help the district plan responsibly for the future. No maps have been created yet. The district is gathering information from staff, families, and the community. You can participate by attending the final Community Voice session Monday, February 9th at Southeast High School. The event will begin at 6:00. After these sessions conclude consultants will use all available information to create the first draft of maps. These will be shared publicly during solution sessions on March 3rd and 4th. You can find more detailed information on the student assignment webpage.
Attention all JUNIORS- Statewide ACT day:
On Wednesday, February 25th all juniors at EA will participate in the statewide administration of the ACT. This is a great FREE opportunity for our juniors. Whether they are headed straight to a 4 year university or still exploring their options, taking this test and doing their best is an important next step. Our students have been preparing for this opportunity every Monday during EAgle time and we are excited to see that hard work pay off!
Senate Page Program:
The Senate Page Program offers high school students a firsthand look at state government and the legislative process. Applications for the 2026 session will open at 9:00 am on Tuesday, February 3. The program is open to students who are in tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade during the 2025-2026 school year. Each North Carolina Senator may appoint up to 2 pages for the session, and service weeks are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is currently scheduled to run from April 27 through June 25, 2026 (dates subject to change). Parents or guardians are responsible for securing lodging. Interested students should contact Senator Galey's office to request sponsorship and begin the application process. Additional details, including eligibility requirements, weekly schedules, and FAQs, are available on the Senate Page Program website.
Cell Phones:
The majority of our student body is doing a great job with the ABSS Wireless Communication Device Procedures. As a quick reminder, wireless devices should be placed away from students (in the cell phone holders) during instructional time. We should not be able to see them on students (in pockets, in ears, etc.) Thank you for your continued support with these new procedures.
